Learning to trust one's instinct in life is invaluable. It's no different when making artistic decisions in the studio. As an experiment, this body of work aims at capturing the spirit and images of first instincts.
Just as a novelist might warm up by writing extemporaneously for a few pages, I've been carving spontaneous woodblocks with no imagery in mind. But unlike the novelist who eventually begins writing the book, I am interested in hanging out in the meditative warm up phase to see what kind of subject matter comes out of it. On a subconscious level, I think it's often where the pure stuff is discovered!
